December 21st, 2012 is a date both anticipated and feared since ancient times. Commonly called the Galactic Alignment, it's the time when the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy, the Sun and the Earth are all in perfect alignment and it only happens once every 12,800 years. The last major ice age ended about that time, wheat mutated into a grain that humans could eat and for all practical purposes, civilization was born. 2012 is the first major birthday of civilization as we know it! Unfortunately 12/21/2012 also has a dark side. The Mayan Long Count Calendar ends on that date and they predicted a massive flood. The Hopi Indians warn us to choose the right path or face the consequences. Nostradamus predicted a catastrophe from the sky. NASA is really concerned about dangerous solar flare activity and geologists are worried about magnetic pole reversal, earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic activity.
